This kit was nice but had a few downsides. There were supposed to be 18 different designs in three plastic bags of 6 each. Unfortunately, my box contained 2 bags of the same designs so I did not receive the elf, ornament, bear, deer, ball, or wreath. Also, the paints that came with the kit (in the form of paint pens) were very thick and had to be dabbed on with a small paint brush. I only used a few of these paints, mainly the white, black, and brown. I bought a separate set of transparent sun catcher paints that were very nice and flowed into all the shaped corners. As another reviewer mentioned, the paint pens did not have any instructions to let people know that there is a plastic plug in the pen tip that has to be removed before using. The plug is the same color as the paint so it’s hard to see. I did have a good time making the ornaments. As you can see from the photos, they turned out pretty well. The white paint pen paint does look fluffy as it was thick and I could kind of swirl it around with a paint brush to look like snow or a beard. The other transparent paints also look nice, especially in the bell and mitten ornaments. They looked wonderful in the sun but I forgot to take a photo. I do think this kit is probably better for older children since the paint pens do not work that well as provided.

I ordered a bunch of crafty stuff for kids since my cousins were visiting. This was by far the best thing. You just squeeze the paint into the designs. Simple and cute. These are hanging in my basement windows now. I bought more squeezy paint before we started. It was worth it.

My kids enjoyed this activity and I loved that it came with everything you needed to make it sun catchers to hang on the window or we could make them ornaments to hang on the tree. FYI, there is a plug in the paint pens you have to take out prior to use.

While the paint is thicker and less translucent than sun catcher kits I have bought in the past, it wasn’t separating like some other I bought to use with it. My kindergarteners enjoyed doing this, but can be messy. I wouldn’t do with younger due to the detail. Was a little difficult for some 5/6 yr. olds.

Definitely for elementary-aged kids or older. My 4-year-old enjoyed the activity, but made a horrible mess. Little paint tubes are used to fill in the light catchers and a delicate touch is needed when squeezing them. My kid got a little too into it and got paint all over himself. There are lots of little nooks and crannies to be filled in, which is challenging for younger children, as well. Still, a good time was had, so I’m glad I bought this.
